Before I turn in for the night, I want to to sing the praises of drawing with a pen, in this case, a ball point pen. I just started a large pen drawing tonight and it is coming along well. It has been a while since I have done an all pen large scale, in this case 30 x 30 inch, drawing and I admit it feels good after so much work with color pencil. It is a different kind of drawing, a different kind of relationship. And it is important, I think to work with pure line sometimes.
I encourage people to draw with pen. They are pretty easy to come by and work well for a while usually. I hope to get a refillable ballpoint pen soon, as the plastic from disposable Bics is a bit of a concern when promoting this kind of drawing. But the grip the tip of the pen has on the paper, the feel of the flow of ink, the pencil like control possible, are all wonderful experiences for an Artist.
If you haven’t tried drawing with pen, do it. I suggest keeping it abstract. You may find it more liberating than you would have imagined. With only black ink on a whit surface, the possibilities of composition are endless. Enjoy!
